Print After-School Snacks

CAC serves a nutritious snack – typically whole grains, fresh fruit and/or packaged meat – and an adequate serving of 100% juice to 240 children and youth every day after school. Children come to the Center hungry after a long day at school. The snack they enjoy at the CAC is often their only meal of the evening.

Without adequate nutrition, students get irritable, have difficulty focusing in school, and lack the energy to participate in recreation. CAC treats each child to a wholesome snack to fuel them for learning in the homework room and for activity in the gymnasium. CAC is grateful to the Illinois State Board of Education for reimbursing these snacks and is hoping to secure a commercial grade stove and hood to begin serving full hot meals, in addition to the daily snack, in 2005.
